This is a simple hotel, and the rooms are not luxurious, varying a lot in size between very small and medium sized, the rooms are decorated in a mixture of styles and furnished with old fashioned furniture. Aesthetes will recoil in horror at some of the bedspreads, but overall these are fun, friendly rooms designed for the backpacker or student on a tight budget. This was once a very grand building and the restaurant reflects this with its gorgeous high corniced ceiling, polished parquet floor and huge casement windows. This is a traditional country house-style hotel, typical of the area. The lobby area is small with limited seating, but there is lots more room to sit down in the adjoining traditional Swiss bar. This is a simple, no nonsense hotel which nonetheless retains considerable charm and character. Highly recommended for the un-fussy traveller! RY07/05

This hotel is located in the Interlaken suburb of Matten just a pleasant 10 min walk to the village green-like Hohematte and 15 mins from either Interlaken -East or - West stations.
