This family-friendly city hotel is set in a building which originally played home to Edinburgh's first large-scale hotel, opened in 1819. After years of being utilised for different purposes, the building was recently returned to its former glory, with many original fireplaces and pillars still in place. The hotel is, therefore, a traditional property with a contemporary twist in the décor. The establishment is fully air-conditioned and comprises a total of 187 guest rooms spread across 10 floors. Guests are welcomed into a lobby with 24-hour reception and check-out service, hotel safe and cloakroom. On-site facilities include lift access, a bar and a restaurant, conference facilities and WLAN Internet access. 24-hour room service and a laundry service are available.
Location
This conference and business hotel is situated on Waterloo Place, which is an extension of Princes Street, Edinburgh's famous shopping street. All of Edinburgh's major tourist attractions, including Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and Holyrood Palace, are within walking distance of the accommodation. The central train station is only 2 minutes away and a public bus stop is located just outside the hotel. Guests will find a range of restaurants, shops, bars, pubs and nightlife spots in the hotel's immediate vicinity and the Scottish Parliament and the Botanical Gardens can both be reached within 30 minutes on foot. The beach is 5 km away at Portobello and Edinburgh Airport is 16 km from the hotel.
Room Description
Many bedrooms feature views of the Firth of Forth, whilst others have floor-to-ceiling windows. The rooms are contemporary and chic in design and style. The en suite bathrooms come with a bathtub/walk-in shower and hairdryer, and in-room amenities include a direct dial telephone, 42-inch LCD TV with satellite channels, CD/DVD player, BOSE surround sound (upgrades only), pay-per-view films and Internet access. Guests can also expect to find a fridge, a safety deposit box, tea and coffee making facilities, an ironing set, central heating, individually regulated air conditioning and king-size/double beds.
Meals
Guests can enjoy a continental buffet and a full Scottish breakfast. The restaurant opens for lunch and dinner, and the bar and lounge areas are also available for lighter meals.

We were very happy with this hotel. Our room was spacious and nicely decorated and it had a king size bed. We loved the power shower and the good quality shower gels and shampoo that were supplied.
Breakfast was most enjoyable as we could order omlettes, smoked haddock or pancakes instead of the usually fry!
The reception sfaff were welcoming and were also there to offer help in any way they could.
The hotel itself is only a short walk away from Princes Street and the station. A great central location!
