I had a very warm and friendly welcome at this hotel and would definetly recomend it to anyone visiting Stockholm for business or pleasure. The hotel is a very large old historic building - Built in the 18th century, it used to be a barracks and then a hospital, but now it has been lovingly converted into this hotel. The rooms are small and just have a bed, wall mounted TV and a desk and chair, but the friendly atmosphere and historic building makes up for this. There is a very nice courtyard - where you can have breakfast outside if the weather is dry. Breakfast itself was a buffet selection including fresh ham, cheese, rolls and boiled eggs. There was also good coffee and fruit to choose from.
Also - If arriving around 4 in the afternoon, then there is free coffee and home-made biscuits in the reception area.
The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from a metro station, and in an area with lots of shops and cafes. There is a small park opposite the hotel, and the landscaped grounds of a church behind the hotel (including a graveyard). The room I had was quiet, and the facilities (shower and toilet) are shared, so just factor that in when getting up in the morning in case there is a wait.
All through the hotel you can see historic things, and there is some old flagstones and steps (one thing to advise is there is no lift, so if you have a problem with stairs be prepared).
All the staff spoke english, and were so friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel and would definetly use the Columbus again next time I go to Stockholm.
