Comfort Gare de l'est is a nice hotel - basic but good. It seems on first appearance to be in a bit of a rough area, but it was fine, and once we had found the hotel (it is a bit further from the Gare de l'est station than the name suggests) we felt comfortable immediately. The receptionists were consistently friendly and spoke good english. Breakfast was a splendid chaos of croissants and coffee flasks. There is a charming narrow courtyard and the lift clings to the side of this - our daughter loved it. Our room was tiny but very comfortable. We had a loft room with a little wooden stair case that goes up to a kind of mezzanine that has a second bed. The only fault is that the shower leaks over the edge of the bath due to perished sealant and an inadequate shower screen. This has obviously been going on for a while as the damp had crept into the carpet in the bedroom and started to rot the furniture! This is a shame as it is a simple problem to fix and spoils an otherwise lovely little hotel.
