Crowne Plaza Heidelberg Hotel

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Crowne Plaza in Heidelberg. The hotel is centrally located, a 10-15 min stroll to the main shopping area and old town. The staff were friendly and helpful, our room was exceptionally clean and the mini bar is good value! I would stay here again without question.

I was very dissapointed with this so-called "four star" hotel. Initial impressions upon arrival were good as the receptionist was very helpful in giving us some useful tips and restaurant advice for the area. However later that day, we discovered upon checking into our room that a smoking room and not a non-smoking room had been booked. We immediately returned to reception and were offered no apology by the receptionist and manager. Instead we were informed that we would be moved to another room, which was non-smoking. The manager clarfied to me that this actually was a room for one person, which they use for two people to cut down on costs. I am not sure why he chose to inform me of this fact. Indeed upon our arrival to the room, it was small and definitely not of a 4 star standard. There were none of the usual nice shampoos and body lotions, which one expects in a 4 star hotel but rather a simple soap dispenser. The quality of the mattress was poor and sunk in the middle.The view from the room was not very inspiring. Our room looked out on to a parking lot! I found the manager to be very rude and unaccommodating when we complained about the size of the room. It is clear that they got a lot of tourists here and that many hotels in the area clearly take advantage of this by charging extortinate prices for very basic rooms. Breakfast was very poor and I felt that some two stars hotels I have stayed in were much better. Coffee from a machine is not a 4 star standard! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and was very unhappy with the quality of the rooms in general!
