We had a very disappointing stay at Hendon Hall on 14/3/09.
We chose this hotel as it was a Handpicked Hotel and we have stayed at others within the chain on several occasions and thought the standard would be the same. It was not.
Our room couldn't have been smaller with the bed pushed up against a wall. There was a problem with the hot water. We couldn't run a bath or shower as it kept running cold. When I called down to enquire if there was a problem, i was told that you just have to let it run as there are air bubbles and eventually it will get hot again! Not great when you are both trying to get ready to go out. The bathroom waste bin had not been emptied from the previous occupant either. The minibar empty.
Full English breakfast was included in our rate. However, that was not a pleasant experience with clearly not enough staff serving. It took over 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee and actually order our breakfast as there was only one young lad serving 6 tables. There was no milk for the coffee, 2 pieces of butter on a small plate, cold toast that came in a cereal bowl with no jam or honey to put on it. Another 30 minutes later, breakfast arrived, cold with items missing. The reason for this delay? We all arrived at once!
At £14.50 per head for the Full English, I would say not to bother as it isn't worth it.
I cannot recommend this hotel and will not stay there again. It could be as lovely as the other hotels in the group but sadly, it all looks shabby and dirty, in need of some TLC. If this was out first visit to a Handpicked Hotel, it would have been out last.
There a nicer, cleaner, more comfortable places to stay...
