stayed for 2 nights , hotel location is excellent, right above Penn Station, accross from Madison Square Garden, close to Macy's and Times Square. Hotel room was dated but clean and pretty quiet considering the location. express check out in morning was handy as caught an early morning amtrak train from station below.
Having travelled all over the world, and stayed in many establishments, this has to have been the worst stay I have ever experienced anywhere. We had to move room 3 times, with rooms being the most old, shabby, dirty & decrepit I have ever encountered. Staff were rude & totally unhelpful. Only that I had paid for my entire stay, I would have left immediately. I would advise anyone to book elsewhere, as even its central location does not save this hotel.
The hotel is very conveniently located on 34th and 8th and the rooms are tidy and comfy, with appropriate lighting, and clean (even if the room was not cleaned one day and even after my complaint in the early afternoon it didn't get cleaned until the next day). I would definitely stay in the New Yorker once again, though!
Very central location close to Time Square, Macy's and Empire State Buiding. Very efficient and friendly reception and direct access to well known "Tick Tock" Diner and excellent pub (Tir na nOg)up the road on 8th and 34th which has excellent value in both food and drink. Rooms well appointed, clean and comfortable with all necessary facilities. Major downside was size of basic room, just large enough to swing a cat. Avoid room 2454 and I presume similar rooms on other floors as close to cleaner's room with the resulting banging of doors from early morning. Would return to hotel provided I was assured of a bigger, quieter room with a view. Availed of the hotel shuttle service to JFK for $25 per person which was excellent value and very convenient. Overall good value for money for Manhattan
Well where to start on this hotel, second year staying here and it has detoriated. We stayed on the 7th floor. 3 seperate locks internally on the door which say something about the hotel. Room was filthy. No hot water for 2 days. According to front desk this was because of usage??? Eventually if you put the sink running, flushed the toilet and ran the shower you got limited hot water. Massive flood in the lobby, smell of dampness everywhere. Room as not cleaned for 3 days (the length of our stay) Positives: Location, it is in the middle of time sq Price..very cheap but you get what you pay for
This is def a budget hotel, there are no frills. The bed had no head board, the plastic was still on the base of the bed and one of the sheets on our arrival was dirty. The room consisted of an old chest of drawers, a TV, a desk, a table, a walk in wardrobe with no hangers and an ensuite. Paintwork was not kept updated and the carpet was old. There was hot water, the sink was clean enough but the bath and tiles in the ensuite were not clean. The location was second to none, the hotel is literally 2mins to Time Square and for the price per night you really can’t expect anymore than what was offered. The staff were satisfactory.
Fantastic hotel, extremely helpful staff. We were unfortunate to stay the weekend the Government buildings across the street were being cleaned - throughout the night! The noise was dreadful but we were moved to a quiet room without any fuss and all the staff we met were really great. The hotel itself is spotless, rooms are very well appointed, beautiful public areas with a wonderful bar and beer garden. Also it's location is ideal, within walking distance of all the main attractions, shopping etc., yet not in a noise location (with the exception of the cleaners across the way of course!). I would recommend this hotel to everybody.
Hotel is small but friendly and homely. Great location. Did not eat in hotel but everthing else was superb.Room spotless with very comfy bed. Concierge extremely helpful. Will def stay there again.

Sample Review We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Times Square is literally around the corner. You couldn't fault the room in any way, being clean and tidy with the usual comforts. Staff very friendly, all in all, a very relaxing and enjoyable stay !
The key thing about this hotel is the location - it's absolutely perfect and practically right on Times Square itself with the ticket box to get cheap tkts just a couple of steps walk away. It's just a quick 10min 12 block walk Downtown to Macy's and another 10min 12 block walk Uptown to Central Park - you will not find a more ideally situated spot. In general the staff we encountered there were a little dour, such as the check-in manager lady who looked absolutely miserable to be there. However, the doorman was very friendly as were the cleaning ladies we encountered - so a bit of both, which you get everywhere I'm sure. The twin-bedded room was of course small - no surprise there - as was the bathroom but it served it's purpose - we only returned there to sleep really. There was a closet area in the room to hang up clothes & store cases/shopping etc but we were hesitant to use it as it smelled a bit musty. The room was really warm and we left the windows open all day to cool it down. There was air-con there in the form of a heater-type construction on the lower part of the wall by the window which could be set to heat (which you would never need to do given the heat already in the room) or cool but it was quite noisy so I personally wouldnt use it at night as it would keep me awake. All in all, would definately stay there again, got a great rate on Roomex & loved the location - but would not be able to stay there in summer due to the heat.
The hotel was very nice and clean. Staff was very helpful in answering questions about the area. I had a wonderful time and I would reserve a room there again, under Roomex.com.
Good location but rooms are a little on the small side.
lovely stylish hotel and very centrally located, almost all good sights are within walking distance. Staff were very helpful and friendly

The Hotel was very well located, Central to everthing. Lovely inside. Very Clean. Petite Room is quiet small but was fine.
Excellent location central to everything you want to be near. Rooms are excellently decorated and maximise space available. Staff were courteous, friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended.
We (2 adults + 1 teenager) stayed at the Astor on the Park for 6 nights. Good location (corner 106th street) just across the road from Centralpark. Delis, Supermarket, Subway and Bus station in walking distance. We've got a quiet and sunny room (501) on the 5th floor towards the back of the building with view on the backyard. Make sure you don't get one of the rooms in the centre of the building. They are very dark due to the windows onto the air shaft !! The size of our room was ok for the three of us and both bathroom and room were clean ! Although a woodfloor would be more hygienic than the fitted carpet. The staff was polite and helpful.
I stayed on the 7th floor for 5 nights in January with my boyfriend. The room was small but that was to be expected as I've previously stayed in New York before in a hotel of a similar standard. The bed was quite small for a double but comfortable enough. There was a tv with decent channels and good storage space. The bathroom was a good size with an impressive shower but we did initially have difficulty in trying to work out how to turn it on - reception sent someone up to show us within 5 minutes though. Location wise, the hotel is at the top end of Central Park and a few mins from the nearest subway where you can get to 5th Avenue / Times Square pretty quickly. Overall, a pleasant, no frills stay but the negative points would be (although no big deal)- there was limited natural light coming into the room, the fan in the bathroom was a little bit too noisy and there was only one lift in the hotel which was extremely slow so have a little patience during busy times! If you are looking for a clean, basic hotel at a very cheap price then this is the place to be :)
