This is a magnificent old hotel right in the heart of the city's historic district, just a few steps away from the main squares in Riga. The reception and hallways are all really beautifully preserved and fitted with antiques. Everything is done in art-nuevo style, and yet the hotel has all the modern conveniences you'd expect from a top-class hotel as well. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the room I had was on the top floor with a great view out over the red rooftops towards the famous cathedral. Everything was very well looked after and maintained in the hotel, and the bedroom and bathroon were large and spacious. It was a good nights sleep too, with no noise coming in from outside. Breakfast was very good with a large selection of food, and the setting for the dining room was really nice with lots of old movie pictures on the walls and antiques and classic furniture. (I believe the hotel and the street it is on have featured in several movies, as it is all so well preserved). There are loads of small cafes and things just around the hotel and you are literally right in the heart of the historic centre of Riga. I walked to the hotel from the bus / train station area in about 20 minutes. I would definetly recommend this hotel as it is one of the best hotels I have had the pleasure of staying in.
