From 1st July 2011 the city of Florence is introducing a new city tax.
This tax is to be paid by the visitors before the end of the stay DIRECTLY to the hotel.
The fee of €1 per star rating per day will apply:
Please note as of January 1st the City of Rome has introduced a new city tax. This tax will be levied on all visitors depending on the type of accommodation chosen, with the exception of hostels.
This measure was approved by the Rome City Council in an effort to generate additional revenue for the improvement of services and infrastructure offered to the tourist. The fees are as follows:
€3 per person per night for stays in 4/5 star hotels (charged up to 10 nights)
€2 per person per night for stays in 3/2/1 star hotels (charges up to 10 nights)
Children under two years of age are exempt from paying tax.
Please note:
This tax is to be paid by the Passenger directly to the hotel directly before the end of the stay.
The tax is also payable even if the accommodation was booked and paid for before 1 January 2011.

According to ETOA (European Tour Operators Association) the tax is per person per day and will be applied for a maximum of 10 days, children under 10 years are exempt.
