Their web site stated that they had no parking of their own but had a concession for parking at a commercial park next door. So I parked in that car park at 6.03pm on a Saturday afternoon. Then I started looking for the hotel. After 40 minutes and asking several times for directions I finally found it. It is quite obvious if you know where to look, but it is poorly signed. On checking in I was fortunate enough to ask immediately about the parking concession, only to be told that the car park was closed on Sunday and indeed closed at 7pm on Saturday. After a quick rush to retrieve my car from the car park, I parked opposite which I was told would be safe as the night porter looked out onto it. [It was.]
Whilst I was checking in, three other potential guests who had booked via a web site were being told there was no room for them. The hotel managed to find them rooms elsewhere. When I left at about 7.15 for my evening event another group were checking in and again the hotel was one room short. Group suggested that problem would be fixed if they could swap a double room for a twin bedded one. As I was in a twin bedded room on my own, I offered to swap, but was told that would not be necessary.
On returning at 12.45 after an enjoyable night out, the night porter informed me that they had needed my room after all and had moved my luggage to another room. On going to that room I found that all my luggage was there, but so was someone else's! He had obviously unpacked and, luckily, was still out for the night. There followed another round of moving his luggage and I was eventually (around 1.45am) assured that I would not be disturbed by the other one-time occupant. I wasn't, but by now I was wide awake and took some time to get to sleep.
I planned to leave early in the morning, around 7.30am. On check-in I had been told that breakfasts started at 9am which was fairly useless for me (but seems to be typical of smaller Irish hotels), so arranged a continental breakfast for 7am. The one good thing about the stay was that the night porter volunteered, in the middle of all the night time moving, to cook me a reasonable Irish breakfast at 7am. He did this and it was excellent. Full marks to him for everything!
