I would like to say we had a nice night in this hotel but that is far from the truth. The hotel from the recption looked great with all the features of a pallace, lady on the desk was very nice and helpful as to be fair were all the staff. The problim was with the room we were given ie room 118 which was at the front of the hotel,a large room with high celings as you would expect with the age of the hotel,it was clean all round tv,kettel ect.In the corner was a dimplex heater which was strange to see but the reason became clear to us very quickley we had no heat at all in our room. I contacted the recption to make them aware or the problim the lady said she would send up someone with more bed cloths and an extrea heater,i asked her if we could change to another twin room but she said she had none available. The windows were not double glased which you would expect in this day and age so not alone was it not keeping the heat in it was blowing a gale through them. The street noise went on till three am which is what you would expect when you visit a city like Manchester but when you have a young kid with you not being able to sleep it is hard. I forgot to mention the two ladies who came up with the small blow heater without it we would have froze.....bad bad bad

Hotel was lovely. Located centrally. Staff were very nice. However the breakfast was terrible. The hot food was cold. I asked for a pot of tea. The waitress said no problem but came over a poured me just a cup! Our room was very big. Good choice of TV channels. The girl that checked us in I think her name was Claire, was lovely.

A lovely hotel in a central location. The rooms were spacious and spotless. The staff were friendly and very helpfull. I would recommend the hotel for easy access to public transport. It was also within walking distance from the shops. Great for football or shopping. I would go back again.

Checked in for our four night stay and were sent to a room on the 1st floor, room was big in size but thats were it ends, very cold, not very clean, old fashioned with a small dirty window looking out onto the railway track which ran within 15 metres of the window, returned to the reception where we were offered an upgrade to a executive room for a extra cost of £20 a night. I paid the extra £80 (4nights stay), and went to the 4th floor to my room, medium sized room with air con,lcd tv and was very clean, breakfast was very good with everything on request, great location, pics on the site were of the executive room which i thought i was getting in the first place without having to pay extra, but overall an unsatisfactory stay at the hotel as the cost before the upgrade was expensive enough without adding an extra £80.

Extremely friendly and helpful staff on reception and at bar. Residents bar was also a public bar but didn't seem to stay open very late. Breakfast was lovely but as usually happens when tea, cofee and toast is not self service but waiter service this part of it was pretty disorganized. You just had to hope you caught a waiters attention to be served rather than being served by order of being seated. We were asked if we wanted white or brown toast, we said brown but were brought white. The room we stayed in was lovely, very spacious, very old fashioned but that is part of the character of the hotel. The architecture of the hotel is magnificent and it is a pleasure to stay in such a lovely building. Quick and easy checking out. Couldn't be nearer to Oxford road Train Station and within easy walking distance to restaurants, bars and the Academy, if you're staying for a gig.

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago and we werent happy with the hotel. It looked lovely in the foyer and the bar/restaurant but when we got out of the lift to go to our room it felt like we were going into a pyschiatric hospital!!! It was old and a bit run down. The room wasnt great either, its a listed building so we understood a lot of the features coudlnt be changed but there was chunks missing from the ceramic tiles and it looked dirty. When my partner moved a chair to make room for his bag there were two condoms on the floor!!!!! We told the receptionist who moved us to the "refurbished" part of the hotel but we didnt get much more of an apology for this. The new room was modern but it was an inter connecting room, the door on our side wasnt locked and was paper thin we could hear everything that was being said by the guests in the other room and it wasnt very pleasant to say the least!!!! Overall on first appearances it seems to be a lovely hotel but I would not recommend this to anyone

We stayed in an older part of the hotel on the 1st floor, we absolutely loved the room, never seen celings that high. The lobby and brass/marble staircase oozed old world glamour and style. It was only a five min. walk to the bars, shops and train station! The breakfast was plentiful and tasty and the staff were all very friendly and efficient. The only downside to the room was that the bathroom smelt a little damp and our particular room happened to be beside the train tracks. However we'll definately be going back!

A bed in the centre of Manchester on a weekend when United are playing can be very hard to find and for very little value. I was delighted to find that through Roomex it was easy to get a room in the Palace Hotel in the centre of Manchester at an excellent price. The twin room (which seemed to be in the basement) we got was adequate but unfortunately the heat in the room which could not be alleviated through opening a window or switching on the Air Con. made the sleep uncomfortable. Apart from that everything else was excellent the location is perfect and the included breakfast was superb. The staff were extremely friendly, professinal and dedicated and made us feel welcome and at home , now if somone could turn down the heat!
