1 out of 5Having travelled all over the world, and stayed in many establishments, this has to have been the worst stay I have ever experienced anywhere. We had to move room 3 times, with rooms being the most old, shabby, dirty & decrepit I have ever encountered. Staff were rude & totally unhelpful. Only that I had paid for my entire stay, I would have left immediately. I would advise anyone to book elsewhere, as even its central location does not save this hotel.

1 out of 5Rooms were filthy. Bath had no enamel left on it and hadn't been cleaned in a long time. When we asked to change room reception informed us that the other rooms were not much better.

2 out of 5This Hotel was just below satisfactory, with positives and negatives. On the plus side was its location and convenience for the subway, Macys and the train to JFK from Penn Station via Jamaica. This is a massive, impersonal hotel with an almost constant queue at reception, although it moves quickly. Wifi is available in the lobby at $2.00 for 30 minutes. Left luggage service is in the basement, $4.00 per bag. Large number of elevators are efficient enough and we never had a long wait. On the down side our room on the 8th floor had 2 single beds and was shabby. Fittings in bathroom were old and the bath enamel was chipped. Paint was flaking from door. Pubic hair was present on bathroom floor and in bath. Tv old and poor reception on most channels. Bed linen was clean. No view of city from window. Air conditioner very old and did not seem to function, although it was not really needed during our 3 night stay. I will look at alternatives for next trip.

2 out of 5Absolutely creepy room, the only good thing was that as far as we could tell there were no bed-bugs. Walls crumbling, furniture abused. Huge long lines to check in or out; hotel staff is overwhelmed and often surly, the atmosphere is pretty similar to a bus station: crowds standing around, not enough places to sit down.

2 out of 5VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HOTEL. CHECK IN TOOK OVER ONE HOUR, ROOM VERY POOR, AT LEAST TWO INCHES OF DUST AROUND THE PREMETER OF THE ROOM, CARPET VERY STAINED, SHOWER LEAKED, CEILING LEAPING IN THE BATHROOM. ROOM ONLY CLEANED ONE DAY OUT OF OUR FOUR DAY STAY. WOULD HAVE COMPLAINED BUT EACH TIME I WENT TO RECEEPTION, TOO MANY PEOPLE ON LINE. ONLY GOOD POINT WAS LOCATION. WOULD NOT RETURN AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL.

5 out of 5Excellent hotel, great location

2 out of 5The bathroom was old and run down and dirty. The room on the 14th floor was noisy, lots of street noise but clean and tidy. The staff were helpfull and very polite and the location was very central for most Downtown tourist attractions and close to all transport links.

4 out of 5Excellent location for both shopping and sightseeing. Hotel adequate.

4 out of 5Enjoyable stay, rooms cleaned twice daily, bit of a queue to check in at reception though.

4 out of 5Hotel is situated right beside Madison Square Garden and Macys very central great location. room clean and tidy . Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.

4 out of 5Location is fantastic - Penn Station is just over the road and the hotel is right next to Macy's and a couple of blocks from the empire state. The subway takes you straight to Greenwich Village. The hotel room was roomy and clean, although just a little shabby round the edges. There was a long queue to check in but the staff were friendly. I would stay here again.

5 out of 5I booked this hotel because it was both affordable and in a SUPERB location - right next to Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, less than 10 minutes walk to Times Square. We booked a twin room and imagine our faces when we opened the curtains and got a view of the Empire State Building! It can be a lottery on what view you get but we certainly weren't disappointed - I would wake up to a view of sunrise behind the ESB. The room itself was bright, had a big TV and the bathroom was fine. Fresh towels were delivered each day and beds were made. If we slept in, the maids would come back later. There are no tea/coffee facilities but that's no bother - simply go down the steps at Madison Square Garden into Penn Station and you'll discover a vibrant underground station with loads of coffee shops, bagel / donut joints and grocery stores. Best night had to be going up the ESB at night, getting AMAZING views, going to one the Irish bars, and getting cinnamon bagels with cream cheese from Penn Station and a vanilla latte from Starbucks and going back to the hotel! The only downside is that the internet was a little pricey, but stroll down to Korea Way (32nd Street) and there's cheap internet there. Totally worth it, I'll definitely stay here again.

1 out of 5This is an awful hotel...the rooms were dirty and neglected..ok so the location is great next door to maceys but its such a let down..dont stay here because your lasting image of New York will be of a filthy room.

3 out of 5I was worried about this hotel after seeing some bad reviews. We were staying for 5 nights while on a shopping trip to New York. This hotel is very old but our room was clean and comfortable and thats all we needed as were were only in it to sleep and shower basically! Couldnt fault the location - superb and within very easy walking distance of the main New York attractions and a 2 min walk from macy's. Dont go here if you;re looking for fancy but I would stay here again if you're looking for a reasonably priced hotel with a superb location.

3 out of 5The Hotel is in a great location but the standard is not as great. I found a lot of the staff rude & unhelpful. You were not allowed an early check in & after a long flight that is the last thing you need to hear. You had to pay extra to leave your bags if you wanted to take a stroll until check in time. I am unsure if I would stay there again.

4 out of 5The Pennsylvania Hotel in NYC was in an excellent location: macy's and Empire State Building one block away, madison square gardens right across the street and subway station right beside the hotel. It was less than 5 minutes walk to Times Square and Broadway. The room we had was very big with 2 double beds, sofa, tv cabinet, table and chair, 2 wardrobes and it was cleaned every day. The staff were very friendly to us. Use of the safety deposit box was free although as the hotel is quite large there was 1 or 2 times that we had to wait a little while for staff to come to us for this service. We had no delays checking in or out, although at times as we walked through the lobby during our stay the queue, sometimes, was quite large. I had seen bad reviews about this hotel before I went but my experience in March 2008 was very good, I would definately book there again. It's not a five star hotel but for the location and the price considering it's in Midtown Manhattan - it is a very reasonable hotel for NYC.

5 out of 5Stayed in the Pennsylvania Hotel New York for the second time this year. Superb holiday. When I return to New York again I would not stay anywhere but the Pennsylvania Hotel. Everything was great, so centrally located, it couldnt have been better. Top marks to the hotel and all thier staff. I will be back again !!!

3 out of 5I thought the hotel was good value for money. The room we stayed in was very basic and the decor needed to be updated, however, it was clean and comfortable. It met my expectations and the price was very competitive. Location was fantastic. The staff were very helpful at all times. I would recommend to a friend and would stay there again.

3 out of 5The hotel was situated in a central area of New York which was great for getting around, with the subway & station beside it. Our room which was on the 2nd floor, I thought could be improved on. Our bed was a bit small for 2 people comparing it with a double bed size in Ireland. Its a pity there is no breakfast served as the 'Lundy's' restaurant was expensive for 3 people for breakfast. We only went there once. I would stay in the hotel again as one is inclined to use it just for night times.

4 out of 5The hotel has a very central location, across the road from Madison Square Gardens and around the corner from Macey's. The room was very comfortable and clean, the rooms were cleaned everyday and fresh towels left. I found the hotel staff very friendly and polite.

2 out of 5Rooms are clean but very basic. Check-in staff not very friendly and for one of our party checking in...very rude. Security not great...when you enter the elevators you are meant to show your card key to the security person sitting there but not once were any of us asked for our key. I'm not very fussy regarding hotels but this is one hotel where I won't be back!

1 out of 5We had to change rooms three times and pay more money out just to find a reasonable bed...Extremely dissapointed and I intend to raise the issue as a complaint. 1st room – mould growing on ceiling tiles, mould growing on the carpet in the corner, no water from either taps on hand basin in bathroom, carpet generally dirty and room didn’t feel clean. 2nd room – slightly cleaner than the first but only had 1 double bed in it - we were a party of three. 3rd room – was told that to get a better room I’d need to upgrade to a corporate room (No 492) and would need to pay an additional charge of $30 per night (given 2 free nights and paid for 5). This room was better than the others but the electrical socket was hanging off the wall so we had to hold on to it when using it to prevent pulling it off completely. Also the shower area leaked and the floor was frequently soaked. I would definately not recommend this hotel at all - affected the whole visit to New York...

4 out of 5Hotel was very central - right beside Macy's. When we checked in we got an upgrade to the Club floor which included free complimentary breakfast. Staff were very pleasant. Rooms were basic but clean.

4 out of 5Our visit was in Febuary 2007 and it was our first time in NY. The location was the main advantage of the Hotel Pennsylvania. It was within walking distence of the main attractions, Broadway, Central Park and Empire State Building and of course it was next door to Macy,s. The rooms were clean and comfortable and everything was run efficiently. I would recommend this historical hotel for a NY visit. I am looking forward to my next stay in the Pennslyvania
