Terrasses Poulard Hotel Mont Saint Michel

My wife and I finally went to Mont St Michel, the place that she's always been talking about. Though you would expect hotels to be significantly more expensive than the ones in other parts of France, which was the case, we managed to find a good deal from Roomex. Prior to our arrival, I contacted the hotel for specific arrangements such as a view over the bay etc, and even though I was told that it was not possible, I was given a room with all my requests, which was good, though through my communication with the hotels via emails, they did not sound very friendly nor accommodating. Upon arrival, we were given a room in the other building which was also part of the hotel, though we were told that we would be staying in the main building prior to our arrival, which was a slight letdown. The receptionist spoke good English, however we thought she wasn't friendly at all, and she was also reluctant to answer our questions with regards to tourism, even simple queries such as the timetable of the Abbey tour, she simply told us that she did not know, which was rather a strange thing because the island was small and the major tourist attraction is the Abbey itself, and she wouldn't even give us a simple direction of any sort. The lady who looked after the breakfast place though, was very pleasant and helpful, and while the breakfast included wasn't the best we'd had, it was good enough with somewhat a variety such as ham, croissant etc. The room itself was spacious, and the view was good enough, though the bay was partially blocked by the main building of the hotel itself. We liked the decor of the room, which was full of black and white shots of the island and pictures of celebrities who visited the hotel, dating centuries back! The room was clean enough, and the bathroom was great, with a window that allows you to open up for fresh air while you take a hot bath. There weren't many channels available on TV, but that wasn't a problem for us as we weren't there to watch TV after all. The beds were also comfortable too, and obviously you would be provided with toiletries, linen and towels etc. Overall we really enjoyed the experience with the hotel, though it would be perfect has the staff been more professional. Having said that, we would highly recommend this place, if you get a good deal from Roomex that is!
