Each room has been named after pieces of poetry written by Joost van den Vondel, closely related to the hotel. The rooms are medium to large in size. All rooms are in good condition, decorated in contemporary color schemes and well equipped. The bathrooms are in good condition. The breakfast room is located on the lower ground floor and was completely renovated in 2005. It is now both modern and traditional in style with dark floors and lighting and pale light wood. The furniture has a traditional beige and black print and exudes a luxurious atmosphere. The hotel bar is located next to the reception and offers plenty of seating both in a bright and airy and, at the same time, cozy ambiance. It has a traditional exterior. The lobby was also completely renovated in 2005 with stripped wood floor and a modern reception area with a large abstract painting adorning the wall which completes the minimalist but very attractive look. There is ample seating and most of the artifacts are unique and of a nature theme. This four star individually designed hotel offers an excellent central Amsterdam location on a quiet street. 07/07/jg

Area Information

This hotel is very centrally located close to the Leidseplein with its bars, restaurants and the Holland casino. The major museums are located nearby within walking distance, and so is the exclusive PC Hooftstraat shopping area.

Sleek hotel. Presently undergoing renovations but this did not affect our stay. Staff very helpful. Alot of black in hotel, as this is there colour scheme, black carpet with thin white stripes, black marble washbasin in bathroom/shower. TV at end of bed, very upmarket style rooms. Breakfast was part self-service and waitress. Coffee are made individually by waitress for breakfast. Nice quite area of city. About two minutes walk from Tram.

The Vondel Hotel in Amsterdam is a lovely and modern hotel at a great location close to the Leidse square, the Vondel park and all the museums. The staff was very friendly and helpful (and quite efficient for Amsterdam, where you can often get a more "laid-back" service). The breakfast was excellent, a hot buffet as well as continental breakfast, catering for all tastes. I especially enjoyed their tasty pancakes.... A nice little bar too for pre-dinner drinks. We were also impressed by the funky interior. It looks quite plain from the outside but the interior design is very special and quite cosy. The only downside was that one of our two rooms was tiny- more like a small single room than a double room. But the other room was perfect! I would warmly recommend this hotel and I'd love to stay there again. Just make sure you get one of the bigger rooms!
