The major refurbishment of the O’Callaghan Alexander Hotel began in January 2017 in the midst of exciting times for this family owned and run Irish Hotel Group. This refurbishment has seen both the interior and exterior as well as the identity of this city centre hotel torn apart in an effort to create a new standard of hotel for Dublin and further afield.
The project which sees the hotel change its name to “The Alex” includes 6 floors of brand new bedrooms with a total of 103 rooms including 36 executive rooms and 5 suites as well as the new addition of a private Executive Lounge on the 6th floor. Guest experience is at the heart of The Alex and paramount to the design of the new bedrooms. Each room includes a luxury bathroom with rain forest shower head, stylish contemporary furnishings and state of the art technology including a 50 inch smart TV. There is a gentle retro nod throughout with the inclusion of an old style telephone and Roberts’s radio in each room which soften this otherwise fresh and modern design.
Throughout the years, this hotel has hosted many local and international conferences and events and that tradition is set to be built upon and improved with the incorporation of 6 fully transformed conference and event spaces with a total capacity of 400 delegates. The investment into the physical meeting rooms as well as the team which will service them, aims to provide the highest quality, modern, meeting space in Dublin city centre to meet the high demand from the European and US markets.
The hotel’s city centre location and close proximity to transport links including Pearse Station and the LUAS continue to make The Alex an ideal choice for both corporate and leisure guests however the new open plan dining and communal area concept will make it an attractive offering for locals to gather. The Alex is an inviting space which lends itself effortlessly to meetings, after work cocktails or a simply great dining experience. The new addition to this hotel is a standalone café which aims to serve great fresh produce to guest and locals alike in this highly blooming area of Dublin 2.

Excellent location, just a stroll to Grafton Street yet nice and quiet. Very friendly and helpful staff. My only negative would be that although the bathroom was clean, it was in need of modernisation as it was quite jaded looking - but otherwise I shall return.

Food of the highest order in bar. Don't go outside. The chef is top class. Everything was good but one thing stood out in the bedrooms. The cheap circular tables as lockers beside the bed look cheap and out of place - replace them I'd suggest. Rooms were quiet and I liked that I could leave window open for air. I hate stuffy rooms and this wasn't.

The only issue I had was that the air conditioning didn't work. Called them up 2 nights in a row. The first night the person said nothing could be done. The second night they reset the unit but it quite working in the middle of the night. I have hot flashes so I had to open the window which was ok but then we were woken early because of the noise outside. I think if you pay that much for a room you should at least be able to sleep. Other then that people were very friendly and the food was good. I liked the location also.
