We had avery disapointing experience in this hotel. We checked in and were given the key to room 344. This room only had a small window looking back over the car park and had very little natural light. It was also only a twin room. The duvet cover on one of the beds was ripped badly and a writing table in the room had only 3 properly attached legs and the 4th leg was stuck at an angle under the desk, if any pressure had been put on this it would have collapsed. The cost for the room was 130 euro which should imply a very good standard. This was our wedding anniversary and we were looking for a bit of luxury. We complaineed to the front desk and 20 minutes later a hotel representative (who didn't introduce himself) but had the look of a manager arrived up at the room. The manager stated that as we had booked the room so late (Friday morning) that it was the only available room. We explained that irrespective of when we booked the room a certain standard would be expected. (ripped duvet covers and broken room furniture are just not acceptable.) Neither of the beds had a lower valance and just had the exposed lower box of the bed. The manager said that this was the same for all rooms but it looked very poor. He then offered us another room. 345. This had 2 windows and a lot more natural light but the view was of the back of the leisure centre and gutters which had a number of weeds in them. The double bed in this room had a hole in the middle of the duvet cover. The room had a good quality of natural light. The manager then said he would only charge us 100 euro for the room and if we had our dinner in the restaurant he would throw in a complimentary bottle of wine.
One of the selling points was the leisure centre. After the manager left the room and we hung up our clothes (there was only 2 hangers in the wardrobe) we went down to the centre only to find it was closed at 6pm on Saturday and Sunday. (the website said that children had to be out of the leisure centre by 6pm on Saturdays which would give the impression that it was open later than that for adults but it didn't explicitly say this).
We had a meal in the hotel restaurant on Saturday evening and this was excellent and the staff extremely courteous and helpful. The front desk staff member was also very pleasant. He was on his own on Sunday when we were checking out along with a wedding party and we had to wait in excess of 20 minutes to get served. (The manager who had dealt with us the previous day came out of a back room and went back in, did not help his front line staff member.)
But overall we were extremely disappointed. The cost of this hotel should have guaranteed us a much better standard. Actually even the most basic of hotels would never present you with torn bed clothes and broken furniture.
We took photographs of the bed linen and the furniture and the view of the weed filled gutters in the second room and would be delighted to send them on to you.
The two bedrooms were well below any acceptable standard, let alone the standard for a quality hotel and took the good out of our anniversary night.
