Turned up to the hotel only to be told they had overbooked and I would be staying at a different hotel! I booked this hotel because all my friends and family were staying there. They never rang in advance to tell me even though I booked 2 months earlier. I was told the hotel itself wasn't all that either with small rooms. I don't recommend staying here.

The hotel is located in a mixed business/residential area a short bus ride (or 25 mins walk!) from Birmingham city centre. From the outside it looks a little dated but the interior is much more impressive. The rooms are a little on the small side but nicely decorated and everything feels modern though the bathrooms aren't quite as fancy as the bedrooms. The beds are comfy and there's everything you'd expect in a city hotel room (including cable tv!). The windows open a little so even though it was quite warm when I stayed the lack of aircon wasn't a dealbreaker. Breakfast was buffet style and pretty good and the food in the bar was alright too in the evenings. I've eaten dinner there on a previous stay and it wasn't great so I gave it a miss this time.
As the hotel is circular the rooms are sort of 'wedge' shaped like a piece of cake - narrow at one end and much wider at the other and as a result some have exterior windows facing the outside and some have windows facing an interior courtyard in the middle of the cylinder which can be a little dark and depressing. There is secure parking for 3.50 stg per night which is reasonable enough for Birmingham. The buses to/from the city run right outside the hotel and are only 1.90 per trip. Overall it's a nice hotel and great value!
